There are several records on the avifauna of Billigiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary. First and foremost is by British naturalist, RC. Morris who published a couple of papers on avifauna of Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary (Morris 1927, 1939). Salim Ali surveyed erstwhile Mysore district as a part of his effort to document bird life of India and covered'Billigiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary (1942 a, b; 1943 a,b,c). Since then, there have been several surveys and .additions to the bird list (Baskaran 1992, Karthikeyan et til. 1995, Srinivasa et al. 1997, }ayadeva, (pers. Corom.) and Uttangi, 2000). Recently Aravind et at. (2001) qJade several new additions to the bird list J of Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuay.
